So please comment below and let us know if there is anything in particular that you would like us to write about.

First, we’d like to start out with a few facts about Affordable Housing in Texas. https://www.affordablehousingintexas.org We became a newly formed 501 c(3) organization in the state of Texas on April 12th 2023. We obtained our tax-exempt status on October 11th 2023, and have since been making progress in our goal to create affordable housing in Texas through the community land trust model. We are currently the only CLT (Community Land Trust) in Texas Hill Country.

So what is a Community Land Trust? https://www.investopedia.com/community-land-trust-5206374  A CLT is a dual-ownership, shared equity tool that facilitates — equitable, inclusive affordable housing solutions that lasts for generations. A CLT mostly can address affordable housing shortages and they can also provide shared spaces within a community for community gardens, cooperative work spaces to name a few

To quickly pinpoint why CLT’s are an important part of the affordable housing conversation, take a look at the following statistics regarding the state of affordable housing in the U.S, and more specifically, Texas:

- There is a nationwide shortage of 7.3 million affordable housing units in the country.

- Texas ranks 21st in the nation in terms of housing unaffordability.

- No state in the country has enough affordable housing for low-income renters or home buyers.

These statistics highlight the housing crisis that our country has faced for years. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h46WVCr4zk0  Throughout the course of this blog we will discuss the impact of CLT’s on affordable housing in the United States, so please keep reading each month. Thank you!
